What’s your go to spot in NYC when you need a little hit of Inspiration?
There are sooo many. Ok here’s the first that popped in my head.
Smalls Jazz Club for it’s intimate, underground vibe.
Intend to drop in on a late-night out. It’s got that raw, authentic sound of jazz.
Have you stumbled upon a new spot or view in NYC that took you by surprise?
Governors Island was an experience on a day off! The view of Manhattan from there is stunning, and peaceful.
Is there a part of town you’ve recently found a deeper appreciation for?
Revisited my old stomping grounds to play some tennis at Astoria Park.
They did such a good job renovating it.
It’s what’s got history that’s still standing that my appreciation grows fond of.
Astoria Park, under the Triboro Bridge with its history and fresh upgrades was a perfect mix of nostalgia and new energy.
Played tennis there and was an ideal way to reconnect with my old stomping grounds. The view is beautiful.
What was your 2024 summer jam?
The Boy Is Mine ( Featuring Rosalie) Club Mix - James Mac, Vall, Rosalie because it always gets me dancing. It has been lighting up every dance floor all over the world.
The original version released by Brandy was written by Japhe Tejeda, a friend who transitioned way too soon.
Every time I play the song, no matter the version, I feel his presence.
What’s the last NYC pic you snapped?
The last NYC pic I snapped was from my iPhone on my rooftop with a view of Manhattan’s skyline. I usually go up there to see how the traffic looks.
If you had to eat at one restaurant for the rest of time which would it be?
I love my food as much as my music—diverse and full of flavor.
This summer, Jack’s Wife Freda in Soho has been my go-to for brunch. I love sitting outside to people-watch. It’s a vibe!
None of my other favorites do breakfast so they can’t be jealous of my answer.
Anyone who knows me knows I can’t live without my Huevos. HA!
How does being a New Yorker influence your actions and perspective of the world?
Being a New Yorker shapes everything about how I see the world and interact with it. Living here gives me a unique blend of resilience and openness – surrounded by such a variety of cultures, ideas, and energies, which make me adaptable to any place in the world I find myself in. It pushes me to embrace new things.
The city is so fast-paced that it taught me how to think on my feet, stay focused, and constantly reinvent myself.
It also gives me a deep appreciation for grit and hustle, & I’m equally inspired by the creative, artistic side that New York is known for.
Every day is an experience in contrast. The elegance and glamour, the raw, grounded side that still lives here.
This city reminds me to stay true to myself, no matter where I go or who I meet, which is a big part of how I approach life.
Any exciting projects you’re working on you’d like for us to know?
I’m diving into a few exciting projects right now. One of them is my house music EP, “Osmosis.” It’s my debut collab with my brother, Leo Moctezuma—he’s a choreographer and musician—and it’s got a vibrant Puerto Rican twist thanks to some amazing friends joining in.
I’ve also stepped out of my shell and am hosting a podcast called “Engaged Never Married” with DJ C DevOne, launching this winter.
It’s a big shift for me, given my private nature, but we’re diving into our stories and others’ as well. Plus, I’m knee-deep in crafting my second film score. Exciting times ahead!
