Quick takes with Friends From New York
Welcome to our biweekly series where we ask our Friends to share the magic they're finding in the city. We chat with local lifer Alex Corporan.
We're kicking off a new snapshot series where we ask NYC lifers to share the fresh things catching their eye in our ever-changing metropolis. First up is everyone's favorite friend, Alex Corporan—he's All City, everywhere, all the time!
In other news, FFNY just launched the Manhattan chapter of Breakfast Club, thanks to our friend Ben Dietz. He's been gathering creatives for a few years now, and so now we will too! Every Thursday morning, interesting creatives roll up to chat about culture over breakfast. Join us at Eva’s Kitchen on Grand St. in LES. Come by, grab a coffee, and let us know what's on your mind.
And because we all need to dance soon, we've got some exciting things in the works. We just locked in Halloween at Deluxx Fluxx, so Save the date!
See you on the dance floor!

What’s your go to spot in NYC when you need a hit of inspiration?
Riding a bike from Park Slope to the DUMBO waterfront, then over either Bridges (Manhanttan or Brooklyn) to gather my thoughts, then parking at Forgetmenot and 169 Bar on the early side when no one is around so I can put my ideas/thoughts down.
Have you stumbled upon a new spot or view in NYC that took you by surprise?
It was a couple years back, but when Med Abrous (FFNY fam) opened the Panorama Room At The Graduate Hotel on Roosevelt Island, and I saw the fireworks on July 4th from that spectacular view with close friends. I'm a born and raised NY’er and that was beyond impressive and nothing I had ever seen.
Is there a part of town you’ve recently found a deeper appreciation for?
The Seaport for sure. It still has that old New York City atmosphere, and while new things have popped up, it's one of the few places where I feel like a kid again. It's the cobblestones, the old low brick buildings, etc. On weekends, NYC is a shit show no matter what, but after 6pm during the week, you'll understand what I'm saying.
What’s the last NYC picture you snapped?
One of the few remaining Fire/Police Emergency Box Stations down by the Westside Highway.
Any sneaky tips or little known secrets you swear by?
I have to say the Pedal Assist (GREY) Citi Bikes. Those things changed the game as in rolling all around the city either by yourself or with friends, showing them places they would never see or experience taking a cab, walking or riding the train in NYC.
Any exciting projects you’re working on you’d like for us to know?
I've been working on my about to be published book on portraits I've taken of awesome people in my life for the past 30 years on Film, Digital and iPhone. Also the big one is a documentary that has been in the works for the past 2 1/2 years with ESPN that will be announced very soon.
If you could only eat from one NYC restaurant the rest of time which would it be?
DOH!!! Now you're messing with my emotions... But Im going to go with the NYC staple from Prince St. to King St. to Brooklyn the Infamous MEKONG !!!
What’s your go to summer jam? Send the track!
Geez another ultra hard question but here's one of thousands: The Brothers Johnson “STOMP”
